We all know that shopping for school clothes can get expensive rather quickly; that is, unless you know where to shop for bargains and specials. Children today, especially the teens, are into brand-name clothing that can be quite costly. Shopping at the outlet stores can make things easier on your budget without giving up your teen's wants. If you're nifty with the sewing machine, you could even make some of your child's clothing. The goal is to give your child a cool back to school wardrobe without creating havoc on your wallet. Outlet stores usually will have designer items that they purchase at a lower price, therefore they are able to pass the savings on to the very happy consumer. Often times backpacks can also be found at reasonable prices at the outlet stores also. As mentioned earlier, the sewing machine can really help you save on back to school clothing. To make it a family activity, get the kids involved in picking out fabrics and designing them with rhinestones or other decorations after they have been completed. Involving your children in the process will help them to be appreciative and excited about wearing their clothing. In addition, you can be sure your children's clothes will be original and not carbon copies of other children's clothing when heading back to school. Second-hand shops usually carry a good assortment of clothing. Before shopping in outlet stores, check out any local second-hand shops in your area. Since most of the proceeds go to charity, you will be helping out local organizations and saving money at the same time. This is a win-win situation here. You can also accept hand-me-downs from other members of the family who have children your age or older. Many times clothes are only worn a few times before children grow out of them and family members are happy to share them instead of throwing the clothing out. If you have nieces, cousins, or nephews that have outgrown clothing, consider asking their parents if you could have the clothing instead of letting it go to waste. This may not be a popular choice for the kids, but it will definitely save money. One last option is to budget for school clothes; you don't have to buy all the clothes all at once. It is perfectly fine to start your child off with just a few outfits and then build up the wardrobe over the course of the school year. Also save up money over the summer while your child is out of school and you will be prepared when the time to do school shopping arrives. Some teens will have summer jobs and will have some money to purchase some or all of their back to school clothing which is always great for parents. Shopping for cool school clothes does not have to kill your wallet. There are many places you can shop around and find great deals on designer clothes. If you cannot afford to buy designer clothes, even at a discount, you can involve your children and make their clothes for them if you are savvy with a sewing machine. If you budget properly over the summer and build up your child's wardrobe little by little, you will not break the bank in one shopping trip. I know it's hard to deny kids new outfits for the first day of school, but when it comes to additional clothes, you can try to convince them it's okay to hold off for a few weeks and buy a little over time. ---------------------------------------------------- Melvin Noel is a prominent writer, researcher, entrepreneur, and a leader in the business industry.
