Greeting cards are one of the more common gifts to be given to people these days. Many stores, from grocery stores to Hallmark shops have shelves upon shelves lined up with greeting cards and they cover a wide variety of topics and purposes. This makes shopping even easier than before. However, some people believe that the best gifts are homemade. There are valid arguments to support either side of this debate and it's about time that both sides are examined.
Home Made Greeting Cards: Pro and Con
First, when I say homemade greeting cards, this doesn't just refer to using construction paper and markers to create one. This can also refer to using Microsoft Publisher's templates to create one and then fold it yourself as well as a myriad of other ways in which you can create an original card to send out to your loved ones.
The main draw of homemade greeting cards is the personalization factor. When you are in control of your own designs then you are best able to tailor suit your recipient's tastes with your greeting cards. However, there is always the possible problem of designing a busy card and without experience in design, home crafts, or design software; there will always be a lack of professionalism in the card. Now, this is not always a bad thing. In fact, some greeting cards are enhanced when they have these minor quirks about them, because they reflect the creator and thus may mean more to the recipient.
Store-Bought Greeting Cards: Pro and Con
There are a lot of stores and websites that specialize in creating greeting cards. To clarify, any store-bought card will come from one of these distributors and without fail, there will be a company logo on display somewhere in the design. Any of these commercial cards will also only require your personalized message inside.
When you shop for them, you'll know that the cards are printed on durable paper and will have designs that are often attractive and professionally made. That isn't to say that they are better than the designs that you could come up with, but, as is often the case, the designs that the companies use will be designed for massive appeal and so will likely not be offensive or bothersome to someone who looks at the card later. However, due to the mass market make of store-bought greeting cards, it will often be the case that the card will lack that personalized feel that a personal greeting can not match.
The End of the Debate between Greeting Cards
To be fair though, the best judge of which card is best for you to send and others to receive falls squarely on your own shoulders. Some people are handy with crafts, design software, while others are not really comfortable with the creative aspect of card design. At the end of the day, the recipient would not want to make you uncomfortable, so keep yourself in mind.
