Timber venetian blinds can make stunning additions to any home. Real wood blinds can add class to a window and sophistication to a door, but just like any variety of furniture made from wood, it is necessary to maintain your accessories correctly to ensure that the blinds last as long as possible without looking too dirty.
Making sure that these type of blinds are clean is not difficult. However, it is important to remember a few special tips when you clean them, lest you damage them completely and have to replace them! The correct means of cleaning blinds is simple and does not require too many supplies.
To clean timber blinds correctly, you will need one bucket, three lint-free and dirt-free cloths, furniture polish and some wood soap. It might be a good idea to clean the blinds at night or at dawn, as cleaning blinds during the day can cause your eyes a bit of grief.
First of all, ensure that your bucket is filled with lukewarm water and some of your wood soap is added. Your water should not be too hot or too cold - it has to be just the right temperature to dissolve the wood soap. Once your cleaning solution is mixed, soak one of your cloths in the water and wring it out thoroughly.
Secondly, open your blinds all the way and carefully wipe the top of your venetian blinds, ensuring that you remove all of the dirt that has built up there. Now, wipe the top and bottom edges of each slat . After each one, wipe dry each edge with a dry cloth to ensure that they are completely free of water.
Once all of your blinds have been washed with the water-soap solution, take your third cloth and use the furniture polish to completely wide down each and every slat on the venetian blinds. This will stop the sun from damaging the blinds and keep them in their original shapes.
As demonstrated here, it is not difficult to wipe down your venetian timber blinds at all - all you need to do is gather a collection of supplies and take a little time to care for your home features. Although this might take up a bit of extra time during your day, the reward of having the best looking blinds you can is worth it! Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure - cleaning your blinds regularly will ensure that you will not have to replace your blinds too often.
